KreuzungJunctions and branches often include a severe/hard change of direction. For high-speed lines the German “Eisenbahnbauordnung” stipulates that the minimum radius has to be 300m. Because of the synchrotrain’s constant speed junctions and branches cannot be built like today’s motorway junctions. Due to the afore mentioned restriction there are two versions of junctions - one with (Fig. 8) the other one without (Fig. 9) the opportunity to wheel around.

As for the second version much more space is needed, since the version with the right-hand turn lane has to have a radius that is four times as big as the first variant’s radius without that lane. The pictures are almost on the same scale. Apart from that, it is questionable if the opportunity to wheel around is needed with automated operation.
